TMJ Treatment, Bruxing, Grinding and Night Guards:

A night guard is a custom-made acrylic mouth guard that protects teeth and deprograms patients from clenching and grinding. While traditional night guards where bulky and often “tight” on teeth, recent advances in dental technology have resulted in more comfortable, less bulky counterparts.

Our office employs an:

night guard, which are custom fit to your mouth and fabricated in our office in as little as 20-30 minutes. NTI ‘s fit over the front (usually upper) 4 to 6 teeth and protect the whole mouth from clenching and grinding. NTI ‘s can eliminate painful, aching jaws, sore sensitive teeth, receding gums, stiff neck, and tension and morning headaches.  
Over 90% of the population grinds at night and only 10% of all dentists use the NTI system. A traditional night splint, a device used by most dentists, actually allows 104% of normal muscle tension than not wearing a splint: a traditional night splint amplifies grinding! The NTI eliminates grinding by inhibiting the temporalis muscle (which closes the jaw) from “firing.” Symptoms such as chronic jaw, neck, and shoulder pain can be eliminated or reduced with the NTI, where a traditional night splint typically fails. The NTI treats the cause, not the symptoms of dental grinding.
