Patient FAQ’s
We always strive to answer all you questions in person during your appointment, but we realize that other concerns may come up when you’re not with us, perhaps sometimes pops into your head at the grocery store or even the beach. With that in mind we’ve compiled this list of some of our most commonly asked questions, and have provided answers designed to help you understand Southport Dental Care and our philosophy. If there’s anything concerning you that we’ve not covered here, please feel free to contact us.
How do the doctors keep up to date on all of the current techniques and materials?
Dr. Cook subscribes to the latest industry journals and actively attends monthly study clubs to keep tabs on research and development in the dental industry. And all three doctors on staff take time on a regular basis for continuing education, logging between 20 and 30 hours per year, and including their staff in one major CE event annually.
How can I have whiter teeth?
We are pleased to offer an in-house laser whitening procedure as well as a two-week at-home supervised program. First, we’ll evaluate your potential for whitening your teeth, based on their current color and the causes of any discoloration. Many patients opt for the laser technique as a ‘jump start’ to the process, following this up with the 2 week “Opalescence” program. Most patients can expect to end up with teeth approximately 2 shades brighter on the dental shade chart.
What makes you different than any other dental practice I can visit?
We think you’ll find that we’re different than other practices, in the level of our commitment to patient service. We take the utmost care in handling each person’s situation, applying the latest proven technologies, and helping our patients obtain and maintain the healthiest possible smile. And as our patients will tell you, the result of our care is not only excellent dental health, but an increase in overall confidence as well.
Do you accept my insurance plan?
Our practice isn’t on any particular insurance plan, but we are happy to help you file any of the necessary forms your company provides. We’re well-versed in the latest coverage trends, and will be glad to help you maximize the benefits due you for procedures you undergo.
What different payment options do you provide?
We accept cash, personal checks, and all major credit cards. We can also structure a particular payment plan for you, if you desire to pay in instalments; or you can apply for an interest free line of credit through Chase’s Health Advance.
What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?
In case of a true dental emergency, call our emergency number any time, and the answering service will page us immediately. One of us will return your call right away, and arrange to see you in person if needed.
I really don’t like visiting the dentist. What can you do to help me relax?
We understand how anxious many people can be about visiting the dentist. That’s why we strive to create a relaxing atmosphere. For example, we take the time to talk with you, listen to your concerns, and help you feel comfortable about every aspect of your treatment ahead of time. If necessary, we also offer nitrous oxide or a prescription oral sedative prior to treatments for patients who are extremely anxious or where the procedure is very complex. When you come in for your evaluation, just let us know how you’re feeling, and we’ll work together with you to put you completely at ease.
I want my front teeth to look better, but I don’t want to wear braces, what can you do to help?
We have a number of ways to improve the look of your front teeth. Depending on your current situation and your objectives, we can evaluate how a bit of reshaping and the addition of porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns might provide your teeth with a bright, new, uniform look. Or, you may be surprised at how a little moving and whitening can actually provide excellent long-term results. And with today’s invisible braces, no one has to know that you’re doing anything to your teeth!
I’m a new patient and I know there is probably something I will have to fill out before I see the Doctor. Can I get copies of any necessary forms so that I can fill them out ahead of time?
We’re happy to provide you with all the necessary new patient forms prior to your first appointment. Simply click on the “Patient Center” icon in the menu above, and choose the appropriate forms from the listing provided. From there, you can quickly print the forms you need. If you don’t have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you’ll find that we provide a free download version for your convenience.
Do you accept referrals?
We’re happy to accept referrals from other dental offices as well as from recommendations by our patients to their family and friends.
